Hybrid Inverter

A hybrid inverter is similar to a standard inverter, but with an added benefit: it can also work with an AC source.

If you are starting out on your solar energy journey then the hybrid inverter is probably the best choice to make. Whether you are initially looking to install Solar panels but plan to install solar storage batteries in the future then the Hybrid inverter is the best solution.

In simple terms if you install a string array of solar panels, these are connected to your hybrid inverter. The hybrid inverter converts the solar energy from your roof (DC current) into energy you can use in your house (AC current). So during the day any energy you require will be used from the solar panels topped up by the grid. If you have an “export tariff” with your energy supplier any excess energy you generate can be sent back to the grid and will be credited against your electricity bill.

If you install solar batteries, these are also connected to your Hybrid inverter and any excess energy will be stored in the batteries for use when the sun is not shining. Once your batteries are fully charged any excess energy is then exported back to the grid.

Generally the hybrid inverter is configured to use energy from the sun first, then combined with energy stored in your batteries and then topped up by the grid, reducing your energy bills and using a natural resource for your energy needs.
